Fulham know who they want. Tony Khan, the club's vice-chairman and director of football operations, has confirmed to BBC Sport that Fulham have two leading candidates in mind to replace Marco Silva — and the language he used suggests this is further along than a casual shortlist.
Silva's departure leaves a genuine gap at Craven Cottage. He built Fulham into a side that belonged in the Premier League conversation — organised, hard to beat, occasionally brilliant going forward — and whoever comes in next inherits both that foundation and the pressure of sustaining it. Khan's public confirmation that the club 'really like' two specific candidates is not the language of a board still browsing.
The identities of those two candidates have not been confirmed publicly, according to BBC Sport's report. Khan did not name them. That matters — speculation at this stage is exactly that, and Flagside won't dress it up otherwise.
What Fulham need is fairly legible from what Silva built: a manager comfortable with a structured defensive shape, capable of getting the best from a mobile front line, and — crucially — someone who can work within a budget that doesn't compete with the division's top six. The next head coach also walks into a summer window where recruitment decisions will be shaped, at least partly, by who is making them.
Khan's directness on the timeline is the real signal here. Clubs that are still assembling a longlist don't brief the BBC that they 'really like' two people. Fulham are moving.
An appointment before the window properly opens would give the new manager meaningful input on incomings and outgoings — which, for a club of Fulham's size, is not a small thing. Get the manager in late and you risk a summer of compromise signings that don't quite fit a system nobody has confirmed yet.
Tony Khan did not give a timeline. He gave a temperature. And right now, it reads warm.
