Silva's departure leaves a genuine gap at Craven Cottage. He built Fulham into a side that belonged in the Premier League conversation — organised, hard to beat, occasionally brilliant going forward — and whoever comes in next inherits both that foundation and the pressure of sustaining it. Khan's public confirmation that the club 'really like' two specific candidates is not the language of a board still browsing.
The identities of those two candidates have not been confirmed publicly, according to BBC Sport's report. Khan did not name them. That matters — speculation at this stage is exactly that, and Flagside won't dress it up otherwise.
What Fulham need is fairly legible from what Silva built: a manager comfortable with a structured defensive shape, capable of getting the best from a mobile front line, and — crucially — someone who can work within a budget that doesn't compete with the division's top six.
