Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka from Burnley, with Roberto De Zerbi continuing to put his own stamp on a squad that needed reshaping from the back four — or, in this case, the back one.
Tottenham Hotspur have officially confirmed the signing via the club's own channels, with ESPN FC also reporting the deal — Spurs have moved to address one of the more quietly pressing questions of De Zerbi's rebuild: who actually stands between the sticks next season. Dúbravka arrives from Burnley, where he spent last season in the Championship after the Clarets' relegation from the Premier League.
The Slovak international is no stranger to the top flight, though. His time at Newcastle United gave him a solid run of Premier League minutes — a goalkeeper who knows the league, knows the pressure, and has operated at clubs where the margin for error is slim.
The fee and contract length haven't been disclosed, and that matters here — because the terms of a deal often tell you more than the deal itself. Dúbravka could walk straight in as De Zerbi's first choice, or he could be the experienced cover that gives a new manager options while he assesses what he actually has. Either reading is plausible right now.
De Zerbi built his reputation on goalkeepers who are comfortable with the ball at their feet — his time at Brighton with Robert Sánchez and later Jason Steele showed a clear preference for a sweeper-keeper who can play out under pressure. Dúbravka, at 35, is a composed, experienced operator. Whether he fits that profile as a first-choice starter or as a steady hand in the squad is the question De Zerbi hasn't answered publicly yet.
Dúbravka is 35. He didn't arrive at Spurs to watch.
What this signing does confirm — regardless of the pecking order — is that De Zerbi is working through his rebuild methodically. Goalkeeper sorted, or at least addressed. The window is still young, and Spurs have plenty of other positions that need attention before the new season begins. But there's a logic to starting here: you don't build a high-press, ball-playing system without knowing who's sweeping up behind it.
