Recent momentum points different ways

Malta arrive with two wins from their last five recent matches, including a 2-1 victory on 24 September. Before that they took three consecutive defeats, conceding seven goals across losses to Luxembourg twice and Slovakia once, before beating Azerbaijan 2-0 in June.

Liechtenstein have won once in their last five, a 1-0 result in March, and lost the other four. Their most recent outing ended 0-2 against Lithuania on 24 September, the fourth straight defeat in a sequence that has seen them fail to score in three of those matches.

Five meetings, seventeen goals, one winner

The seventeen goals across the five head-to-head meetings have been distributed with remarkable consistency in Malta's favour. The hosts won 2-0 when the teams last met in November 2024, repeating the margin from a 3-0 victory in 2020. The earliest recorded meeting, in March 2008, finished 7-1.
