Arsenal pip Liverpool to Romano-confirmed midfielder deal

The Romano confirmation

Romano's 'here we go' is the closest thing football has to a legally binding document, and Arsenal got it. According to Romano, the deal is done, the midfielder is a Gunner, and Liverpool's interest has come to nothing.

Football365 reported the confirmation, citing Romano's post as the source. The player's name, fee and contract length have not been disclosed in the available reporting. Arsenal are expected to make the move official through their own channels shortly.

Arsenal, Liverpool and the same player

Arsenal and Liverpool are the two clubs most people expect to be standing at the top of the Premier League table when April comes around. A direct head-to-head for the same player is about as pointed as transfer business gets.

Mikel Arteta has been clear about wanting to add midfield depth and quality. Arne Slot will now have to look elsewhere, with the window closing.

Player name and fee still to come

Arsenal are expected to formally announce the signing through their own channels. Once the player's name, fee and contract length are confirmed, the picture becomes a lot clearer. The headline fact for now: Arsenal wanted a midfielder Liverpool also wanted, and Arsenal got him.
