Gor Mahia's CAF alarm: the league hasn't started

Gor Mahia's chairman has gone public with a warning that should make the Football Kenya Federation uncomfortable: the delay to the FKF Premier League season is not just an administrative headache, it is actively putting Kenya's biggest continental campaign at risk.

The alarm from the top

According to Pulse Sports, Gor Mahia's chairman has expressed serious concern that the FKF Premier League has yet to get underway, with the club's CAF Champions League campaign already in motion. The core of the complaint is straightforward: you cannot ask a club to compete at continental level while their domestic rhythm is non-existent. Preparation, match sharpness, squad cohesion, all of it depends on competitive football being played regularly, and right now it is not.

Gor Mahia are Kenya's standard-bearers in African club competition. Every year the CAF Champions League represents a chance to measure the country's best against the continent's elite, and every year the structural conditions around that effort seem to work against it rather than with it.

A governance problem with continental consequences

The FKF has not, as of this report, offered a public explanation for the delay or a confirmed start date for the new season. That silence is its own kind of answer. When a league cannot tell its clubs when they will play, the clubs that have the most to lose are the ones already committed to fixtures elsewhere, and Gor Mahia are exactly that club right now.

The chairman's public statement is a direct call on the FKF to act before the club's continental campaign is further compromised.

What it means for Gor

Without domestic matches, Gor Mahia's coaching staff are left managing fitness and form through training sessions and friendlies alone. Against CAF opponents already deep into their league seasons, the difference in competitive sharpness tends to show early: in the first twenty minutes, when legs and decision-making are still finding their level.

Kenyan football has been here before. The pattern of delayed seasons, administrative disputes and last-minute fixture reshuffles is not new, but the cost of it is usually absorbed quietly. The chairman's public statement suggests Gor Mahia are no longer willing to absorb it quietly.
