FKF's season start: delayed, again

The FKF Premier League had only just got a confirmed start date for the 2026/27 season. Now, according to Pulse Sports, there is a fresh delay on the table. For Kenyan football fans who have been through this before, the news will land with a familiar, exhausting thud.

Another date, another problem

Pulse Sports reports that the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season is facing a scheduling setback, coming shortly after a kickoff date was officially confirmed. The specific reason for the delay, and any revised date, have not yet been made public by the Football Kenya Federation.

What is clear is the pattern. Kenyan club football has repeatedly found itself stuck in the same loop: a season date is announced, anticipation builds among clubs and supporters, and then something shifts before a ball is kicked. For clubs trying to plan pre-season schedules, squad registrations and budgets around a fixed calendar, that loop is more than an inconvenience.

The knock-on for clubs and supporters

Every delay carries a real cost at club level. Pre-season preparation gets stretched or compressed. Players in the middle of contract negotiations are left in limbo. Coaching staff cannot finalise tactical work without knowing when competitive football begins. And for supporters, particularly those who follow clubs outside Nairobi and plan travel around fixtures, the uncertainty is simply draining.

The FKF has faced sustained pressure over its administration of the domestic calendar, and another postponement at this stage, after a date had already been locked in, will do little to ease those concerns.

No revised date yet

An official FKF statement on the revised timeline is still awaited, per Pulse Sports. Until the federation confirms a new date and explains what caused the setback, clubs are left planning around a blank space where a fixture list should be. The 2026/27 season has not even started yet, and it is already a story about delays.
