Dani Olmo's camp is testing the market

It's the kind of story that arrives with a hundred caveats attached, and it's worth sitting with those before anyone starts drawing a shirt. CaughtOffside reports that intermediaries linked to Dani Olmo have made informal contact with Premier League clubs, with Arsenal and Liverpool named among those approached. No official talks between clubs. No confirmed asking price. No word on whether Olmo himself is pushing for a move or whether Barcelona have any intention of listening.

What we do know is where Olmo sits right now. He's at Barcelona as of the summer, 28 years old, with a market value of €60m recorded back in June. In the seasons we have on record he's been a regular in Flick's attacking midfield: 47 appearances with 8 goals and 10 assists in 2025/26, following 38 appearances, 12 goals and 7 assists the year before.

Why this is odd timing

Barcelona are 21 points from seven games under Hansi Flick, unbeaten, with a goal difference of plus 24. Nobody sells a player contributing at Olmo's level from a team playing like that without a reason we haven't been told.

Where Olmo would fit at Arsenal or Liverpool

Arsenal and Liverpool are two of the six clubs with the financial muscle to even be worth a phone call on a player of Olmo's profile. Mikel Arteta's and Arne Slot's sides both play with the kind of attacking rotation where a midfielder who can operate off either flank or centrally has obvious appeal. But an intermediary making contact is a very long way from a bid landing on a desk. This is the stage where an agent tests temperature, not where a transfer gets built.

What actually needs to happen next

For this to move anywhere, three things have to line up that currently have no confirmation attached: Barcelona would need to be open to selling a player who's been productive for them, Olmo himself would need to want out of a title-chasing side, and one of the interested clubs would need to convert an informal chat into an actual offer. None of that exists yet. Right now this is a name being floated by people who talk to clubs for a living.
