The president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation made the claim during an event tied to his political party, not a federation press conference and not a FIFA briefing. According to Foot Mercato, Lekjaa stated plainly that the showpiece match of the 2030 tournament will be played on Moroccan soil, a line that reportedly caught even seasoned observers off guard given where it came from.

That setting matters. Lekjaa wasn't standing behind a FIFA podium or flanked by federation officials in Rabat. He was speaking at a political gathering, which is exactly why French outlets have been asking whether he simply vendu la mèche, spilled the beans on something not yet meant for public consumption.

The co-hosting arrangement and the final itself

The 2030 World Cup has long been discussed as a shared tournament spanning Morocco, Spain and Portugal, with commemorative matches also planned in South America to mark the competition's centenary.
