Malen pulls out of Holland duty, injury scare

Football Italia reports that Malen withdrew from Ronald Koeman's squad for the September international window because of a problem sustained at club level. The outlet gives no detail on what exactly he's dealing with, how bad it is, or when he might be back, and there's been no word yet from Roma or the Dutch federation to fill in the gaps.

The timing stings. Roma sit top of Serie A, 13 points from five games with four wins and a draw, and a goal difference of plus 11 that speaks for itself. Malen has been central to that start, and losing him for even a short spell is the kind of thing that changes a fixture list in a hurry.

He arrived at Roma as one of the more interesting attacking additions of the summer, having spent last season racking up 22 goals and 5 assists in 49 appearances for Aston Villa, on the back of four years at Borussia Dortmund where he consistently hit double-digit goal returns.
