According to The Guardian — corroborated by Sky Sports — Chelsea have agreed to sell Trevoh Chalobah to Serie A side Como for an initial fee reported as £25.7m, with a separate figure of £27.5m also cited — the difference likely reflecting add-ons, though that hasn't been explicitly confirmed. Either way, it's a reasonable return on a player who came through the club's own academy and made over a century of Premier League appearances.
Chalobah's Chelsea career was never quite linear — loan spells, injury setbacks, the odd spell in the wilderness — but he stuck around long enough to matter. He ends his association with the club having genuinely contributed, which is more than can be said for plenty of players who passed through during the same era.
Fàbregas has been quietly building something interesting at Como since their promotion to Serie A, and a defender with top-flight experience and Premier League pedigree fits the profile. Chalobah gets a fresh start; Como get a player who knows what it means to compete at the highest level.
Henderson completes his move
On the same day, Chelsea confirmed the signing of Jordan Henderson, according to The Guardian and Sky Sports. No contract length or fee details have been reported — and that's worth flagging clearly: the financial terms of this deal remain undisclosed at time of publication. What is clear is that Alonso wanted him — and given Alonso's own midfield career, the logic of bringing in a player with Henderson's reading of the game and dressing-room presence isn't hard to follow.
Henderson is 36 and nobody is pretending otherwise. But Alonso isn't building a squad of 36-year-olds — he's building one around a core of younger players who might benefit from having someone in the middle who has won everything there is to win in English football.
