Vardy's shock move to the Championship

Jamie Vardy scored the goals that won Leicester City the Premier League. Now he's doing his running at Turf Moor, after BBC Sport and ESPN both confirmed the former Leicester forward has joined Burnley until the end of the season.

Nobody had this on the bingo card for September 6th. Vardy, 38 and still the most improbable title winner English football has produced, is swapping the King Power for the Championship, and Scott Parker's Burnley are the ones who've got him.

The exact shape of the deal is still a bit fuzzy. Both BBC Sport and ESPN confirm Vardy has joined Burnley until the end of the season, with ESPN describing him as a former Leicester forward rather than a player out on loan. Neither outlet has put a fee, a wage figure or any reasoning from the Leicester side on the record. What's clear enough: Vardy is out of the King Power picture, and Burnley wanted him enough to get it done.

Why Burnley moved

This is a club with genuine top-half aspirations in the Championship, and Parker has been shaping a squad to match. Vardy gives him a No.9 who can still find the net at a level below what he's used to, the kind of experienced finisher a promotion push tends to lean on in February and March, when legs are heavy and games come thick and fast.

The Vardy angle

He won the league with Leicester in 2016, scored for England at multiple tournaments, and has spent his entire senior club career built around one specific talent: getting in behind and finishing. None of that disappears just because the postcode's changed. What's genuinely uncertain is why this move happened at all. Leicester haven't explained the exit, there's no word on what he's being paid, and nobody outside the two clubs seems to know exactly how the deal is structured.

Either way, Turf Moor just got a lot more interesting to watch this winter.
