Inter's Massolin heads to Cagliari on loan

For a midfielder who has come through the Inter system without yet establishing himself in Simone Inzaghi's first-team plans, a Serie A loan at 23 is a direct test of whether he can hold his own at the top level. Cagliari are a mid-table Serie A side with a genuine need for midfield depth, and a player with Inter DNA on his CV is not a bad place to start.

Does it make sense for both clubs?

For Cagliari, the logic is straightforward. Getting a young player from one of Italy's biggest clubs on loan, with no permanent commitment required, is low-risk business. If Massolin delivers, they have a useful asset for the season. If he doesn't, the window closes and they move on.
