De Bruyne benched again, Amorim's San Siro debut, Juve's new attack
Four fixtures, four separate storylines worth following on their own. Together, this Serie A weekend feels like the moment the 2026-27 season properly announces itself.
Inter: can the perfect start survive Cagliari?
Simone Inzaghi's side arrive at Cagliari as reigning champions and, according to Football Italia, with a perfect record through the opening weeks of the season. Cagliari at home are never a straightforward afternoon, but the real story is whether Inter can keep the pressure on whoever is chasing them. A third straight win would send a message that the title defence is not a formality.
De Bruyne: still waiting at Napoli
Kevin De Bruyne has not started for Napoli yet this season, and the Como fixture is the latest opportunity that may or may not arrive for him. According to Football Italia's line-up preview, he is again not expected to begin the match. It is a strange situation: one of the most decorated midfielders of his generation, at a club with genuine ambition, watching from the bench while the season ticks forward. Napoli will want this resolved sooner rather than later.
Juve's new attack: Kolo Muani and David together
The most developed story of the weekend comes from Turin. Football Italia reports that the official line-ups for Juventus vs Parma confirm Jhon Lucumi making his first start for the club, with Randal Kolo Muani and Jonathan David both confirmed starters in attack. Two forwards who arrived with serious reputations, on the pitch at the same time, for the first time. Juve fans have been waiting to see what this combination looks like. Parma, to their credit, are not the ideal side to experiment against.
Jeremie Boga is also in the mix, which gives the Juventus attack a different texture to anything they fielded last season.
Amorim's San Siro bow
Ruben Amorim takes charge of Milan at San Siro for the first time when Venezia visit. It is the kind of fixture that gets filed under 'should win' before it kicks off, but the real interest is in watching how Amorim's ideas translate to a squad that is still adjusting to him. His 3-4-3 shape demands specific movement patterns from forwards and wing-backs alike, and Milan's personnel are still finding where they fit inside it.
